About This Call

Miami-Dade Transit, in collaboration with Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program, requests qualifications from professional artists to create works of public art for the NW 7th Avenue Transit Village. The selected artist will develop a welcoming experience for visitors, transit passengers and residents of the NW 7th Avenue Transit Village.

The 7th Avenue Transit Village is a mixed-use development project located in Liberty City, one of Miami-Dade's oldest and most celebrated communities. This multi-modal hub will provide 140 units of affordable housing, a business/commercial area, a multi-level parking garage and a transit hub. The project will incorporate many existing area businesses and include a new multi-purpose theater with an arts center component. The entire project is expected to be completed by fall 2015.

Artists are invited to create a site-specific installation that will transform the façade of the new multi-purpose theater/arts center. The design should create a public identity for the NW 7th Avenue Transit Village and may integrate sculptural elements, dynamic lighting and/or an interactive video/projection system. The estimated project budget is $262,500, inclusive of all costs to design, fabricate, install and implement the art project. This is an open call to all professional artists residing in the United States. Applications from architects, landscape architects or other design professionals will not be considered unless included as part of an artist-led team. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists are excluded from participation. Finalists will be paid an honorarium of $800 to develop specific proposals. The project timeline is very tight, with completion expected by October 2015.
