About This Call
Miami-Dade Art in Public Places and the General Services Administration invite artists to design a new media installation for the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Government Center (SPCGC), located at 111 NW 1st Street in downtown Miami. The lobby area is open to the public weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and serves as a first impression of County government for citizens and employees.
The artist-designed new media installation should transform the existing space into a visual experience that engages employees and visitors. Proposals may include short films, interactive videos, conceptual works, or other media. The installation should resonate with a moving audience, communicate quickly, and compel passers-by to stop and watch. The selected artist will be responsible for design and installation of new media technology such as LED screens, projectors, panels, monitors, or other lighting components. Artists are encouraged to explore sustainable technology and may collaborate with an interior designer. The media panels/screens will provide space and software to accommodate a specially commissioned program of video installations and live performances by other artists.
The estimated budget is $165,000, which must cover design, engineering, fabrication, installation, and all other costs associated with the project. The project is open to experienced professional artists residing in Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists' immediate family members are excluded. Finalists will be paid a $1,000 honorarium to develop specific proposals. Application deadline is February 19, 2010 at midnight. Submissions must be made online via CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org. For more information, contact Brandi Reddick at 305.375.5436 or [email protected].
