About This Call
The Miami-Dade County Park and Recreation Department and Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program request qualifications from professional artists and/or artist teams to create a landmark artwork for the Kendall Soccer Park. The selected artist will design a unique artwork that will contribute to the identity of this park and bring an unexpected and delightful encounter for visitors entering the facility.
Kendall Soccer Park is located at 8011 SW 127th Avenue, Miami, Florida, and consists of five regulation size artificial turf soccer fields. The park is home to recreational soccer leagues and hosts a variety of classes, camps and competitive games. An open space area near the entrance of the facility has been designated as the potential site for placement of the artwork. The artwork should be innovative, convey the spirit and sportsmanship of soccer and prominently identify the park within the streetscape. Artists are encouraged to create an interactive, functional work that uses innovative materials and structures. The estimated project budget is $65,000. Eligibility is open to all professional artists residing in Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade employees, as well as selection panelists and panelists' immediate family members, are excluded from participation.
The application deadline is July 10, 2010 at midnight. A three-member group of arts professionals will identify finalists who will be paid a $500 honorarium to develop specific proposals. Selection criteria include previous artistic accomplishment, public art experience, and initial approach to the project. All materials must be submitted online via CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org. There is no application fee. For additional information, contact Brandi Reddick at [email protected] or 305.375.5436.
