About This Call
Miami-Dade Art in Public Places is seeking professional artists to design public art for the Jackson South Community Hospital expansion project located at 9333 SW 152nd Street, Miami, Florida. The hospital expansion will add 172,700 square feet to the existing 199-bed facility, doubling its size to serve South Miami-Dade residents. The project includes renovation of approximately 40,000 square feet of existing space and will remain operational throughout the multi-phase construction.
Two opportunities are available: Exterior Design Concepts for comprehensive design of exterior gardens and landscape (estimated budget $549,000, open to all professional artists residing in the United States), and Interior Design Concepts for floor design and wayfinding features (estimated budget $228,000, open to professional artists residing in South Florida). The exterior project includes five garden areas: the Therapeutic Garden (2,800 sq ft), Respite Garden (4,500 sq ft), Everglades Garden (water feature and walkway), Butterfly Garden (1,000 ft walkway), and Entrance Garden and Plaza (3,200 sq ft garden, 12,000 sq ft plaza). The interior project involves designing flooring and signage for a three-story expansion inspired by Everglades themes, with each floor assigned a color: green (grasses), blue (water), and orange (flowers).
Application deadline is August 28, 2009 at midnight. Selected artists must attend a project orientation visit in late September 2009 and finalist interviews in October 2009. Design work begins January 2010, with 100% design completion by end of summer 2010, fabrication substantially complete by March 2011, and project completion by April 2011. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists are excluded from participation. Professional artists with demonstrated experience creating signature works are encouraged to apply.
