About This Call
The General Services Administration Trades Shop Facility, located at 3501 NW 46th Street in Miami, is seeking an artist to create public art for the facility's exterior canopy and support system. The project budget is $128,000, which must cover design, engineering, fabrication, installation, and all other costs associated with the artwork.
The new facility will be Miami-Dade County's first LEED Silver Certified building and will serve as headquarters for over 100 County employees including construction managers, carpenters, mechanics, painters, electricians, and plumbing staff. The building will feature sustainable materials, recyclable carpets, eco-friendly furniture, state-of-the-art air conditioning, water filtration systems with underground collection tanks for grey water recycling, and comprehensive recycling systems. The artist is encouraged to enhance the central support post at the main entrance with artistically designed elements that portray the building's sustainable design and serve as an inviting entranceway.
Eligibility is open to experienced professional artists residing in Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists' immediate family members are excluded. The application deadline is March 20, 2009 at midnight. Finalists will be selected to develop specific proposals and will receive a $700 honorarium. The project timeline includes finalist interviews in May 2009, design completion by October 2009, fabrication substantially complete by January 2010, and final project completion by February 26, 2010. All applications must be submitted online via CaFÉ with 10 images of previously completed work. There is no application fee. For more information, contact Brandi Reddick at [email protected] or 305.375.5436.
