About This Call
Miami-Dade Art in Public Places, in collaboration with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, seeks artists to create public art installations for the new Fire Rescue Headquarters and Training Facility located at 9300 NW 41st Street, Doral, FL. Three opportunities are available:
Redesign of Existing Headquarters Facade (Estimated Budget: $360,000) - Open to professional artists residing in the United States. Artists will create a permanent, site-specific installation transforming the existing façade into a new media installation using exterior lighting, integrated screens, or projection systems. The artwork should depict Fire Rescue Department activities, welcome the community and employees, and create a public identity for the facility. The installation will display artistic media content daily and convey informational messages during emergencies. Exterior Fencing Art Component (Estimated Budget: $90,000) - Open only to Miami-Dade County based artists. Design an art component for exterior fencing inserts surrounding the employee parking area of the new Training Facility, integrated into four metal inserts along the masonry fence. Interior Entranceway of Training Facility (Estimated Budget: $30,000) - Open only to Miami-Dade County based artists. Design an interior art component for the entranceway utilizing and artistically interpreting historical photographs and events of the Fire Rescue Department.
Artists may express interest in one or more opportunities and must submit a preliminary statement detailing their initial approach to the public art components they intend to address. Application deadline is January 15, 2010. Miami-Dade employees, selection panelists, and panelists' immediate family members are excluded from participation. Professional artists with demonstrated experience in creating signature works are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a time-sensitive project requiring strict adherence to advertised deadlines.
