About This Call
Miami-Dade Art in Public Places, in partnership with the City of Hialeah, seeks to commission a Miami-Dade County based artist or artist team to create a site-specific artwork for the City of Hialeah Senior High School Parking Garage. The artwork will be located on the exterior façade of the garage above the entrance and exit of the facility. The desired artistic approach will treat the garage façade as a singular architectural environment and transform the experience of entering the garage for vehicular traffic, providing character and possibly a way finding element. In addition to the exterior façade, artists should address the small park area adjacent to the main entrance of the garage. The artwork envisioned for this area could serve a functional purpose, such as seating or shade elements, or could visually link the façade to the pedestrian level. The garage is located in a residential neighborhood and primarily services Hialeah Senior High School.
The artist is responsible for fully developing an artwork within the allocated $50,000 budget which must be inclusive of design, engineering, fabrication, installation, and any other cost associated with the implementation of the art project. The project is open to experienced professional artists residing in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Miami-Dade employees and City of Hialeah Employees, as well as selection panelists and panelists' immediate family members, are excluded from participation. A three-member group of arts professionals will identify finalists who will be paid a $500.00 honorarium to develop specific proposals prior to final selection. The primary criteria for finalist selection will be previous artistic accomplishment as demonstrated in images of previously completed artwork, public art experience, and initial approach to the project.
Application Deadline: October 15, 2010 (Midnight). All materials must be submitted online via CaFÉ. There is no application fee. For additional information, contact Brandi Reddick at 305.375.5436 or [email protected].
