About This Call
Metro Regional Government in Portland, Oregon, in partnership with the Regional Arts & Culture Council, invites visual artists living in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming to submit qualifications for a roster of artists for up to 8 public art projects in selected regional parks and natural spaces in northwest Oregon (Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties). Art budgets will range from $5,000 to $30,000 for approximately eight parks. The deadline for submitting materials is 10:59 PM PST, Monday, March 16, 2015.
Parks benefiting from the levy will incorporate artwork to convey a story or provide clues specific to the site's natural and cultural history or characteristics. Public art goals include creating opportunities for people to connect to a site's context, history, uses, habitats, species, and processes; being easily visible and accessible to the public; improving the natural quality or appeal of the site; and respecting and responding to the existing site's habitats, plant and animal species, infrastructure, community context, natural processes, and wetlands. Professional artists and teams living in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana are eligible to apply. Students enrolled in a degree-granting program are not eligible.
Artists selected for the roster will be pre-qualified for public art opportunities in specific parks over the next three to five years and will be selected early in the design phase of a project to be part of the design team. A selection committee composed of artists and Metro representatives will review submissions and make selections based on artistic merit of submitted past work, demonstrated experience working with durable materials and fabrication methods that can withstand outdoor weather conditions, and a statement of interest describing how past work addressed a project's particular needs. No more than 25 artists will be selected for the roster. Applications must be submitted through CaFE and must include a statement of interest (2,000 characters or less), a one or two-page résumé with three professional references, 10 images of past work with details, and an image identification list as a PDF.
