About This Call
Metro Arts Alliance is seeking qualifications from Iowa artists for the Forte Legacy Project, a public art commission to celebrate the organization's 40th anniversary in 2015. This is a request for qualifications only; selected finalists will be invited to develop design concepts.
Eligibility: Lead artists and artist teams, 18 years of age and older, residing in Iowa, working in any two- or three-dimensional media. Applicants should submit a professional resume or CV, 6-10 work samples from past projects, and up to three professional references. Artists must also respond briefly to two questions: describing past/current experience collaborating with diverse audiences (children, teens, and adults) to create artwork, and describing how their work addresses environmental awareness and sustainability.
The commissioned artwork will be created at the 2015 Des Moines Arts Festival and permanently installed at Des Moines International Airport. The project should celebrate the positive impact of the arts in the community, involve collaborative participation of community members of all ages, be fabricated using primarily found and/or recycled materials, contain an educational component about the medium or conservation, and be durable for long-term exhibition. Over 200,000 people will view the work in process at the festival; over two million airport passengers annually will see the finished installation. Finalists will receive a $500 stipend for design concept development; the selected artist/team will receive a $10,000 stipend for project development and public collaboration. Deadline: January 9, 2015 at 1:00 a.m. CST. Contact: [email protected] or 515.280.3222.
