About This Call
The 30th Annual Messina Hof Texas Artist Wine Label Competition is the centerpiece for the 36th Annual Wine & Roses Festival on Saturday, May 2, 2020. Artists are invited to submit digital artwork depicting an organic harvest theme. The entry fee is $25 for the first digital submission and $20 for each additional submission. Artists must reside in Texas and be 21 years of age or older.
Top Finalists will be notified on Friday, March 13, 2020, and invited to submit physical artwork for the competition. Finalists receive an invitation to display and sell artwork at the Wine & Roses Festival with a complimentary booth, and an invitation to the VIP Reception. Physical artwork must be framed in a professional-looking wooden frame and is due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2020. Attendees of the Wine & Roses Festival will vote for the top three winners in a people's choice contest.
The 1st place winner receives $1,000, artwork displayed on Messina Hof wine labels with artist name and title, permanent display in the Messina Hof Gallery, invitation to the Harvest Grand Finale Dinner in August 2020, social media recognition, and a certificate for a Private Tour & Tasting for 10 at Messina Hof Estate Winery. The 2nd place winner receives $250, social media recognition, and a Private Tour & Tasting certificate. The 3rd place winner receives $100, social media recognition, and a Private Tour & Tasting certificate. The 1st place artwork becomes the property of Messina Hof Wine Cellars, Inc.
Artwork must be in any 2D medium, visually bold, and adhere to the harvest theme. Artwork cannot contain faces of people, Messina Hof logos, weaponry, trademark symbols, words, flags, or military or governmental insignia. Digital entries are judged on appropriateness of materials, reducibility for label use, appropriateness of theme, workmanship, and overall impression. The suggested artwork ratio is 3x2 for label reduction. Remaining artwork must be picked up by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2020.
