About This Call

The 28th Annual Messina Hof Texas Artist Wine Label Competition is the centerpiece for the 34th Annual Wine & Roses Festival on April 21, 2018. Artists are invited to create artwork inspired by the theme "Heart and Soul of Texas." The competition is open to Texas residents age 21 and older.

Top Finalists will be invited to submit physical artwork and will receive a complimentary booth to display and sell work at the Wine & Roses Festival (April 21, 2018) with over 2,000 expected attendees, plus an invitation to a VIP Reception on April 22, 2018. The 1st place winner receives $1,000, artwork displayed on Messina Hof wine labels with artist name and title, permanent display in the Messina Hof Gallery, invitation to the Harvest Grand Finale Dinner in August 2018, social media recognition, and a certificate for a Private Tour & Tasting for 10 at Messina Hof Estate Winery. The 2nd place winner receives $250, and the 3rd place winner receives $100, both with social media recognition and tour certificates.

Entry fee is $25 for the first digital submission and $20 for each additional submission. Digital entries are due by 11:59 p.m. MST on March 2, 2018. Finalists will be notified on March 9, 2018, with framed physical artwork due by 5:00 p.m. on April 13, 2018. Festival attendees will vote for winners on April 21, 2018, with results announced April 27, 2018. Artwork must be picked up by 5:00 p.m. on May 11, 2018. Artwork must be original 2D work in any medium, visually bold, and cannot contain faces, livestock, weaponry, trademark symbols, words, flags, or military insignia. Physical artwork must be framed in a professional dark-colored wooden frame. Judging criteria include appropriateness of materials, reducibility for label use, theme appropriateness, workmanship, and overall impression. All proceeds are donated to The Arts Council.
