Messina Hof Wine Label Competition 2016

The 26th Annual Messina Hof Texas Artist Wine Label Competition is the centerpiece for the 32nd Annual Wine & Roses Festival on April 23, 2016. The theme for 2016 is Renaissance. The European Renaissance occurred between the 14th and 17th century, during which advances in art and science flourished—both necessities for winemaking.

Top Finalists will receive an invitation to display and sell artwork at the Wine & Roses Festival on April 23, 2016 at Messina Hof with a complimentary booth (over 2,000 people expected), an invitation to the VIP Reception on April 23 from 12:00pm-1:30pm, and two tickets to the Texas Renaissance Festival in Fall 2016. The 1st place winner receives $1,000, artwork displayed on Messina Hof wine labels with artist name and title, permanent display in the Messina Hof Gallery, and a VIP visit to the 2016 Texas Renaissance Festival including 2 tickets, King's Feast Dinner Theatre tickets, VIP parking, 2 VIP After Dark tickets, overnight hotel stay, souvenir wine glass, and t-shirt. The 2nd place winner receives $250 and a Texas Renaissance Festival Prize Pack. The 3rd place winner receives $100 and a Texas Renaissance Festival Prize Pack.

Entry fee is $25 for the first digital submission and $20 for each additional submission. Digital submissions are due March 4, 2016. Finalists will be notified March 11, 2016 and must submit framed physical artwork by 5:00pm on April 15, 2016 to Messina Hof in Bryan. Attendees of the Wine & Roses Festival will vote for winners on April 23, 2016. Remaining artwork must be picked up by 5:00pm on May 14, 2016. Artists must reside in Texas and be over 21 years old. Medium is open to any 2D medium including watercolor, oil, pastel, pencil, acrylic, collage, multimedia, and digital art. Artwork must be visually big and bold and adhere to the Renaissance theme. Digital submissions must provide clear indication of final artwork with no significant changes allowed. Entries cannot contain trademark symbols, words, flags, military or governmental insignia. Physical artwork must be the original of the digital submission with no prints accepted, and must be framed in a professional-looking dark-colored wooden frame with secure hanging hardware. The winning artwork will be reduced to fit on a Messina Hof label with possible cropping. A suggested ratio is 3x2. High contrast is important.
