Messina Hof Wine Label Art Competition

The 25th Annual Messina Hof Texas Artist Wine Label Competition is the centerpiece for the 31st Annual Wine & Roses Festival on April 25, 2015. The theme for 2015 is "Perceptions," asking for art submissions depicting "Messina Hof architecture in the perception of your favorite artist." Examples include: "Messina Hof Bryan Cellar in the style of Renoir," "Messina Hof Hill Country building in the style of Van Gogh," or "Messina Hof Grapevine Wine Bar in the style of Manet." Artists must reside in Texas and be over 21 years old. The initial digital submission requires a clear picture of the final artwork and costs $25 for the first entry and $20 for each additional entry. Digital entries will be judged by a panel including Messina Hof owners and Arts Council members based on appropriateness of materials, reducibility for label use, theme appropriateness, workmanship, and overall impression. Top Finalists will be announced March 13, 2015, and must submit framed physical artwork by 5:00 p.m. on April 17, 2015. Final artwork must be in any 2D medium, professionally framed in dark-colored wood with proper hanging hardware, and follow a suggested 3:2 ratio. The subject must be visually bold and cannot contain trademark symbols, words, flags, or military/governmental insignia.

Top Finalists receive an invitation to display and sell artwork at the Wine & Roses Festival on April 25, 2015 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. (over 3,000 attendees expected) and a VIP Reception invitation from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Festival attendees vote for the top three winners. The 1st place winner receives $1,000, artwork displayed on Messina Hof wine labels with artist name and title, permanent display in the Messina Hof Gallery, and an invitation to the Harvest Grand Finale in August 2015. The 2nd place winner receives $250 and the 3rd place winner receives $100. The winning artwork becomes the property of Messina Hof Wine Cellars, Inc. Remaining artwork must be picked up by 5:00 p.m. on May 16, 2015. All shipping and insurance expenses are the artist's responsibility.
