About This Call
The 34th Annual Messina Hof Texas Artist Wine Label Competition invites Texas artists to create artwork for the theme "SYMMETRY," with guidance from the concepts of balance, equilibrium, and harmony. The winning artwork will be featured on a wine label in Messina Hof's wine portfolio, with the artist's name and artwork title displayed on the back of each bottle. This competition is part of the 40th Annual Wine & Roses Festival on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Messina Hof Estate Winery in Bryan. In partnership with the Arts Council of Brazos Valley, entry fees are donated to support local arts programs.
Top Finalists selected by a judging panel will be invited to submit physical framed artwork and will receive a complimentary table to display and sell work at the Wine & Roses Festival, where over 1,000 people are expected to attend. Finalists also receive a pair of tickets to the 2024 Harvest Festival in August. Festival attendees will vote for their favorite artwork among the finalists. The 1st place winner receives $1,000, artwork displayed on select wine labels and permanently in the Messina Hof Gallery, a personal invitation to the Harvest Grand Finale Dinner, and a certificate for a Private Tour & Tasting for 10 people. The 2nd place winner receives $500, and the 3rd place winner receives $250, with both receiving social media recognition and tour certificates.
Entry fee is $25 for the first digital submission and $20 for each additional submission, due by March 29, 2024. Digital entries must include 1-6 images and will be judged on appropriateness of materials, reducibility for label use, appropriateness of theme, workmanship, and overall impression. Finalists will be notified by April 5, 2024, with framed physical artwork due by 5:00 p.m. on April 19, 2024. Shipping expenses and insurance are the artist's responsibility. Artwork must be picked up by 5:00 p.m. on May 24, 2024. The 1st place artwork, including frame, title, and copyright, becomes the property of Messina Hof Wine Cellars, Inc.
