About This Call
Mesa State College is seeking artists to create a hanging sculpture for the new glass entryway of the Saunders Multi-Use Facility in Grand Junction, Colorado. The entryway is two stories high and 100 feet long with a natural stone wall. The artwork should be welcoming and convey a theme of kinetic wellness.
The Saunders Multi-Use Facility houses programs in recreation, athletics, nursing, and kinesiology. The current 70,000 square foot facility will be expanded by 180,000 square feet, including a new 50-meter natatorium with spectator seating for 750. The facility serves students and hosts many community activities, with 16 sports programs currently and anticipated growth to 19 programs within two years.
A total art budget of $75,000 is available for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs. This opportunity is open to all artists residing in the United States. Artists must submit six digital images, a resume, and an artist statement of no more than 2,000 characters through the CaFÉ application system. There is no application fee. Semi-finalists will be notified by June 8, 2009, and will be invited to interview and submit an in-depth proposal for a small honorarium. Final selection will be made from the semi-finalists, with installation scheduled for December 2009.
