About This Call
Mesa State College is seeking qualifications from artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific public artwork for the remodel of the Saunders Multi-Use Facility on the campus in Grand Junction, Colorado. This call is open to Colorado artists only.
The Saunders Multi-Use Facility houses programs in recreation, athletics, nursing, and kinesiology. The current 70,000 sq. ft. facility will be increased by 180,000 sq. ft., including a new 50-meter natatorium with spectator seating for 750. The facility serves students and hosts many community activities. The Art Selection Committee will consider all mediums for various spaces including a graphic panel or mural on the exterior, a hanging sculpture in the main interior glass atrium entryway, a clock tower, and areas for 2-dimensional work. Artwork should be welcoming and related to sports or southwestern Colorado.
Total art budget is up to $75,000 for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs. The selection process includes a review of all complete submissions, with semi-finalists notified by December 2009 and invited to interview and submit an in-depth proposal for a small honorarium. Final selections will be made from semi-finalists. Installation of artwork is scheduled for Summer 2010. Deadline for submission is November 2, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Submit 6 images with your application.
