About This Call

Gallerium proudly presents Melancholy 2026, the 3rd annual juried exhibition, publication, and sales opportunity to explore the realm of melancholy and express your deepest emotions and imaginations. Melancholy has intrigued artists from antiquity to the contemporary, remaining a source of inspiration since it is not simply a state of sadness but a complex and nuanced emotion found in geniuses and heroes. Melancholy in art refers to a deep emotional state that evokes a mixture of sadness, introspection, and longing, capturing the fragile beauty of fleeting moments, the transience of life, and inherent human vulnerability.

For Melancholy 2026, artists are encouraged to delve into the realm of melancholy and express their unique interpretations through categories including The Seasons of Melancholy, The Melancholy of Memory, Human Connections in Melancholy, Dreams and Disappointments, Nature's Melancholy, Melancholy in Abstraction, Cultural and Historical Melancholy, and The Complexity of Melancholy. The subject is free, and all thoughts and feelings that demonstrate melancholic moodiness are welcomed, whether through somber landscapes, poignant portraits, abstract compositions, or other thought-provoking 2D or 3D art in any medium.

This exclusive triple art opportunity offers selected artworks global exposure through an international online exhibition running from January 24 to March 24, 2026, publication in the official catalog with a chance to be featured in The Book of Arts, and sales promotion on ARTSY, the largest global art collector platform. Open to all artists worldwide of any age, background, or career stage, all 2D & 3D mediums and styles are accepted. Submission is free of charge, with a small fixed fee applying only to jury-selected artists. Awards include curated reviews, focused interviews, audience feedback, honorable mention certificates for up to 10 outstanding artists, permanent online presence, and comprehensive promotional campaigns.
