About This Call

Gallerium presents Melancholy 2024, a dual exhibition and publication exploring melancholy as a source of artistic inspiration. Artists are invited to express their unique interpretations of melancholy through any 2D or 3D medium, including painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, photography, digital art, sculpture, and mixed media. The subject is open to interpretation—melancholy may manifest through somber landscapes, poignant portraits, abstract compositions, or other thought-provoking work. All styles and artistic approaches are welcome.

Submission is free of charge. Selected artists will pay a USD 40 selection fee (with money-back guarantee until the exhibition opening). Artists may submit up to 5 artworks, with a maximum of 2 accepted per artist. Eligibility is open to all visual artists worldwide. Artworks must be original, created by the entrant without instructor supervision, and the artist must hold all rights for international presentation and publication.

Selected artworks will be exhibited online from December 25, 2023, to February 25, 2024, and published in The Book of Arts: Melancholy publication. The online version of the book is free; high-quality print editions are available via print-on-demand. Selected artists receive an exhibition catalogue listing, digital exhibition poster, artist profile page on the Biafarin platform, digital certificate, promotional badges for social media, and a report with exhibition analytics. Selected artworks may also be promoted for sales and considered for publication in magazines and books within the Biafarin art network.
