About This Call
The Meeker Sheep Dog Classic International Art Contest seeks original artwork reflecting sheep dog trials. This is the 30th year of the contest, with a new separate Photography section in 2017. Sculptures and digital art are not eligible. The 2017 First Place Photography image will be used for 2018 marketing materials, and the First Place Artwork will be used for the 2018 Meeker Classic poster, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, and other official souvenir items.
The contest is open to all artists over 18. Entries must be original artwork not previously entered in a Meeker Classic Art Contest, in any reproducible medium. Digital enhancement of photographic images to improve quality and impact is allowed. All artwork must be available for sale by silent auction from September 6-10, 2017, for no less than the minimum sale price specified by the artist. Entry fee is $25 per piece (non-refundable). Artwork must arrive unframed by August 9, 2017, shipped to: c/o Sarah Grimes/Kari Jo Ruchti, Wendll's Wondrous Things, 206 Market Street, P.O. Box 256, Meeker, CO 81641. Artist is responsible for shipping and return shipping costs and insurance.
Awards for Photography: 1st place $500, 2nd place $300. Awards for other mediums: 1st place $1500, 2nd place $650, Shirlee Coy Best of Northwest Colorado $250, People's Choice Award $300, Children's Choice Award $100. Photography entries are not eligible for People's Choice and Children's Choice awards. Submissions are due by July 15, 2017. Jurying occurs July 16-25, with notifications sent July 26. Selected work will be displayed at a local venue in Meeker August 10-September 3, then at the trial site September 6-10. An art reception will be held Thursday 5-7pm at the trial site with voting for People's and Children's Choice awards. The silent auction closes Sunday 30 minutes into the lunch break. Proceeds are split 30% to the Meeker Classic and the balance to the artist. The artist assumes risk of loss or damage during transportation and while in the custody of the Meeker Classic.
