About This Call
The Meeker Sheep Dog Classic International Art Contest seeks to exhibit and auction original artwork reflecting sheep dog trials. This is the 29th year of the contest. The 2016 First Place artwork will be used for the 2017 Meeker Classic poster, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, and other official souvenir items.
Eligibility and Requirements: Open to artists over 18 years old. Entries must be original artwork not previously entered in a Meeker Classic Art Contest, reflecting the theme of sheepdog trials. Any reproducible medium is acceptable; sculptures, photographs, and digital art are not eligible. Submit up to 3 pieces with a $35 non-refundable entry fee. Artwork must be available for sale by silent auction September 7-11, 2016, for no less than a minimum sale price specified by the artist. Artwork must arrive unframed by August 10, 2016, ready to hang with necessary hardware. Paper artwork must be signed, matted with a 2-inch mat, and adequately backed. Pastels should be treated with fixative before shipping. Ship in a reusable container with a prepaid return shipping label.
Awards: 1st place receives $2,000 and image used for all 2016 marketing materials; 2nd place $650; Shirlee Coy Best of Northwest Colorado $250; People's Choice Award $650 (voted by attendees); Children's Choice Award in Memory of Johnny Wix $50. The Meeker Classic retains 20% of sale proceeds, with the balance to the artist. Artist assumes risk of loss or damage during transportation and while artwork is in the custody of the Meeker Classic and is responsible for insurance arrangements. Selected work will be displayed at a local venue in Meeker, then moved to the trial site for the 5-day event in September. An art reception will be held Thursday evening with voting for the People's Choice Award.
