About This Call
The Meeker Sheep Dog Classic International Art Contest seeks to exhibit and auction original artwork reflecting sheep dog trials. This is the 28th year of the contest. The 2015 First Place artwork will be used for the 2016 Meeker Classic poster, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, and other official souvenir items.
Artists may submit up to three pieces of original artwork in any reproducible medium (sculptures, photographs, and digital art are not eligible). The entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Submissions must be made by July 26, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Accepted work will be juried by August 1st and narrowed to the top 50. Artists will be notified via email, and top 50 pieces must be mailed to Meeker Classic by August 10, 2015. Work will be displayed at a local venue and then at the trial site during the event (September 9-13, 2015). A silent auction will be held, with an Art reception on Thursday night from 5-7pm where voting for the People's Choice Award occurs. The silent auction closes on Sunday, 30 minutes into the lunch break.
Eligibility: Open to all artists over 18. Entries must be original artwork not previously entered in a Meeker Classic Art Contest and must reflect sheep dog trials. All artwork must be available for sale with a minimum sale price set by the artist. A category for Best of Northwest Colorado is available for artists residing in Rio Blanco, Moffat, Routt, Mesa, and Garfield Counties. Awards include: 1st place - $2,000 (artwork used for 2016 marketing); 2nd place - $650; Shirlee Coy Best of Northwest Colorado - $250; Children's Choice Award - $50; People's Choice Award - $350. Artwork must arrive unframed, matted with a 2-inch mat, signed, and adequately backed. Artwork must be shipped in a reusable container by August 10, 2015. The artist assumes risk of loss or damage during transportation and is responsible for insurance. Proceeds from sales are split 80% to the artist and 20% to the Meeker Classic. Shipped work will be returned beginning September 14, 2015.
