About This Call
The Meeker Sheep Dog Classic International Art Contest 2014 seeks original artwork of a reproducible medium that reflects sheep dog trials. This is the 27th year of the International art contest. The 2014 First Place artwork will be used for the 2015 Meeker Classic poster, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs and other official souvenir items.
Artists may submit up to three pieces for a $35 non-refundable entry fee. The contest is open to all artists over the age of 18. Entries must be original artwork not previously entered in a Meeker Classic Art Contest. Any reproducible medium is acceptable; sculptures, photographs, and digital art are not eligible. All artwork must be available for sale by silent auction from September 3-7, 2014, for no less than a minimum sale price specified by the artist. Artwork must arrive unframed, ready to hang with necessary hardware, signed, matted with a 2-inch mat, and adequately backed. Artwork must be protected by clear acetate or plastic for shipping. Artwork must be shipped in a reusable container to: c/o Laurie Simonsen, Wendll's Wondrous Things, 594 Main Street, P.O. Box 256, Meeker, CO 81641, arriving by Saturday, August 9, 2014. Artist is responsible for shipping costs and insurance.
Juried submissions will be narrowed to the top 50 by August 1st. The top 50 pieces will be displayed at a local gallery and then at the trial site during the event. Awards include: 1st place and Art for 2015 marketing ($2,000), 2nd place ($650), Shirlee Coy Best of Northwest Colorado ($250), Student Scholar Award ($50), and People's Choice Award ($350). An Art reception will be held Thursday night from 5-7pm at the trial site for voting on the People's Choice Award. The silent auction closes on Sunday, 30 minutes into the lunch break. Proceeds from sales are shared as follows: 20% to the Meeker Classic, with the balance to the artist. The artist assumes the risk of loss or damage to artwork during transportation and while in the custody of the Meeker Classic.
