Meeker Sheep Dog Classic Art Contest

The Meeker Sheep Dog Classic International Art Contest seeks to exhibit and auction original artwork reflecting sheep dog trials. This is the 25th year of the contest. The 2012 First Place artwork will be used for the 2013 Meeker Classic poster, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, and other official souvenir items.

Eligibility and Requirements: Open to all artists over 18. Entries must be original artwork reflecting sheepdog trials, not previously entered in a Meeker Classic Art Contest. Any reproducible medium is acceptable except sculptures, photographs, and digital art. Artists may submit up to three pieces. All artwork must be available for sale by silent auction from September 5-9, 2012, for no less than a minimum sale price specified by the artist. The entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Artwork must arrive unframed, ready to hang with necessary hardware, signed, matted with a 2-inch mat, and adequately backed. Artwork must be protected by clear acetate or plastic for shipping. All work must arrive by August 15, 2012, shipped to: c/o Mary Frances Coryell, Wendll's Wondrous Things, 594 Main Street, P.O. Box 256, Meeker, CO 81641. Artists are responsible for shipping costs and insurance.

Awards: 1st Place and Art for 2013 marketing - $2,000; 2nd Place - $650; Shirlee Coy Best of Northwest Colorado - $250 (for artists residing in Rio Blanco, Moffat, Routt, Mesa, and Garfield Counties); People's Choice Award (voted by attendees) - $350. Juror: Chris Uphoff. An art reception will be held Thursday, September 6, 2012, from 5-7pm at the trial site for voting and winner announcements. The silent auction closes Sunday, September 9, 2012, 30 minutes into the lunch break. Proceeds are split 20% to the Meeker Classic and 80% to the artist. Artists assume risk of loss or damage during transportation and while artwork is in custody of the Meeker Classic.
