Meed2: New Abstraction

Gallery19 announces a call for entries for the second annual juried competition, Meed2: New Abstraction. Photographers at all experience levels are invited to submit work. The competition explores new abstraction through experimental photography, examining the materiality of film and practices of Pictorialism, Dadaism, and Surrealist montage in response to digital photography. Juan Fernandez, artist and educator, will serve as juror, reviewing all entries and selecting finalists.

Artists selected as finalists will have their work exhibited and available for purchase at Gallery19 during August/September 2018. The winner will receive a solo show at Gallery19 for August 2019, a one-year contract including website exposure, multi-media promotion, social media presence, participation in gallery programming, and direct sales efforts. Juan Fernandez will mentor the winner for one year (August 2018 through August 2019), reviewing work and assisting in development of a gallery-ready exhibition. An opening reception and winner announcement will be held on August 31st, 2018.

Entry fee is $45 for submission of up to 5 JPGs. Submissions must include artist statement and bio. Photographers must submit 2-5 images. Finalists' framed works must reach Gallery19 by August 24th, 2018. A list of finalists will be posted by July 27th, 2018. Artists agree not to reproduce or sell submitted images within Illinois during the exhibition period. Gallery19 retains 50% commission on all sales. Artists retain all rights to their photographs and grant Gallery19 nonexclusive rights to use images in connection with the competition exhibition and future annual exhibitions.
