About This Call
The Johnson County Public Art Commission, on behalf of the Johnson County (KS) Public Building Commission and Johnson County MedAct, is seeking Artists or Artist Teams to collaborate with the Architect and Contractor to develop innovative, original art for a new MedAct Station.
A new 9,000 square foot MedAct Station is being constructed at 301 N. Monroe St, Olathe, Kansas, with construction slated to start in Q4 of 2024. The Architect is Finkle Williams Architecture, and the Public Art Budget is approximately $80,000. One or more commissions may be selected pending the advice of the Artist Selection Panel (ASP) and approval of the Public Art Commission (PAC). The submission deadline is July 17, 2024 at 11:59 PM MDT. Work sample requirements: 5-15 images and 0-2 videos (5-17 total samples minimum).
Shortlisted Artists will receive a $1,500 stipend for proposal development and finalist interviews. Non-local Artists (3+ hours from Olathe, Kansas) will be reimbursed for travel, lodging and food up to $1,000 at standard Federal rates. The selected Artist will have two contracts: the first for design and documentation under the Architect's contract, and the second for fabrication, construction and installation under the Contractor's contract. Artists must carry General Liability ($2,000,000 each occurrence/$4,000,000 aggregate), Workman's Comp ($1,000,000), and Commercial Auto ($1,000,000) insurance. The Artist Selection Panel will evaluate submissions based on past experience and success, capacity and resources to achieve success, overall approach to the project and site, excellence in past public artwork, and maintenance considerations. The MedAct facility is not open to the public, and the rear of the site is fenced and gated. Artwork must be accessible to viewers and members of the public in visible and engaging locations. Questions should be emailed to Rachel Sher at [email protected] by July 1, 2024 at 3 PM CST.
