Meadowbrook Shopping Center - Rotating Sculpture Program

The Prairie Village Arts Council and R.H. Johnson Company are seeking two contemporary public artworks from two separate artists for initial 2-year lease contracts of a rotating outdoor sculpture program at the renovated Meadowbrook Shopping Center at 95th and Nall in Prairie Village, Kansas. Selected artists will each receive a stipend of $3,000 for the two-year lease, with $1,500 upon installation and $1,500 upon removal.

Proposals can be new or existing work (if existing, must have been created within the past 3 years). Artists working in a variety of materials are encouraged to apply, including stone, metal, wood, concrete, found objects, natural materials, plastics, fiberglass, light, and sound. Art must be a minimum of 5 feet in at least one direction and no taller than 8 feet. The program seeks works that capture public attention and engagement, are whimsical, kinetic, eye-catching, sound-making, and/or physically interactive. Works should complement the shopping center design, relate to the surroundings, appeal to a broad audience of all ages and abilities, and be suitable for interaction with children. All art must be original creations by the artist and must not create inordinate safety or liability problems. One sculpture will be central to a water fountain setting.

Applications must include: current CV/resume, artist statement limited to 1 page, 3-10 images showing all sides of the work, sculpture information (title, date created, material, size, weight, installation requirements, value, selling price, and artist statement about the specific piece), an optional audio file of less than 3 minutes, and if applicable, one short video of no more than 3 minutes for sculptures with sound, light, or kinetic components. A certificate of general liability insurance is required for all selected artists. Open to all artists 18 years of age or older.
