About This Call
Highpoint is partnering with the McKnight Foundation to offer two Artist Fellowships for midcareer printmakers. The program recognizes and supports midcareer artists living and working in Minnesota who demonstrate a sustained level of accomplishment, commitment, and artistic excellence.
Selected fellows will receive an unrestricted $25,000 award, access to Highpoint's state-of-the-art printshop, technical support from the fellowship coordinator, storage space for materials, use of inks and standard shop supplies, access to Highpoint classes, group discussions and critiques with local and national experts, a McKnight Printmakers' exhibition with public talk and reception at Highpoint, professional digital documentation of exhibited artwork, and Highpoint supporting membership.
Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must have or maintain Minnesota residency for at least one year prior to application and for the duration of the fellowship. Artists must be midcareer with a body of work demonstrating sustained accomplishment, commitment, and artistic excellence. Candidates must present a substantial history (5 years minimum) of participation in regional and national exhibitions, and receipt of grants, awards, or fellowships. Artists can only apply to one McKnight Artist Fellowship in any artistic discipline within a year and cannot have been a recipient of a McKnight Artist Fellowship within any artistic discipline in the last five years. Applicants must not be staff, board, or immediate family of the McKnight Foundation or fellowship administrative partners, and cannot be enrolled full-time in an academic program. A formal degree is not required.
Artists must demonstrate excellence in at least one or a combination of traditional printmaking mediums (intaglio, lithography, screenprinting, monoprinting, or relief). Work may incorporate other materials but must be primarily printmaking, and any work submitted must be printed by the applicant artist.
Application Requirements: Submit 10 examples of work made within the last 10 years in JPEG or JPG format, under 5MB, and 1200 pixels or greater on the longest side. Include a resume (maximum 5 pages, file no larger than 2MB) and an artist statement (maximum 2 pages, file no larger than 2MB) describing your background, approach to printmaking, professional development, and goals for your work and this fellowship. There is no application fee. A panel of two jurors will review applications remotely and select finalists, who will then host the jurors for studio visits before final decisions are made.
Timeline: October 31, 2018 - applications due; December 2018 - finalists host jurors for studio visits; January 2019 - fellows announced; February 2019 - November 2019 - fellowship period; January 2020 - fellowship exhibition at Highpoint.
