About This Call
The Broomfield Public Art Committee seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create artistic screening for two Xcel Energy gas facilities at the McKay/Lambertson Open Lands site. The project budget is up to $45,000 and must cover all design fees, materials, fabrication, engineering, shipping, installation, and commercial liability insurance. One screening area is approximately 50 feet square and the other approximately 100 feet square; only partial screening is necessary. The Xcel fencing is 7.5 feet tall, and digging is allowed outside the Xcel easement.
Submission requirements include a resume/CV, three professional references, artist statement, letter of interest (one to two pages), brief proposal with drawings, budget and timeline, and media images of proposed and prior works. Submissions must be made online via the CAFÉ system with no application fee. Semi-finalists will be selected by April 12, 2017, and must submit refined proposals by May 1, 2017. Finalists will be selected by May 10, 2017, with installation targeted for completion by November 30, 2017. Semi-finalists will receive a $500 honorarium.
The artwork must integrate into the natural environment and enhance the view of the area. Materials must withstand harsh sun, high winds, temperature fluctuations, and moisture with little or no maintenance. The piece cannot interfere with pedestrian movement or safety, hinder grounds maintenance, adversely impact wildlife or wetlands, or significantly impact mountain views. Artists are encouraged to review the PAC Guidelines, which emphasize artistic excellence, timelessness, site compatibility, design elements, permanence and safety, and diversity in style and media.
