About This Call

The Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission is seeking to install art on the south wall of the parking structure at McEuen Park in downtown Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The wall is approximately 265 feet long and varies in height from 4 to 11.5 feet. The selected art may extend the length of the wall or just a portion. The goal is to significantly beautify one of the primary pedestrian and vehicle passageways of the revitalized park, visually enjoyed by users of the Centennial Trail, park visitors, and parking garage users.

The total funding available is up to $45,000.00, which must cover the artist's fee, travel, fabrication, engineering, materials, documentation, installation, lighting, and all other costs. Artists may submit up to 5 designs. The art must be comprised of low-maintenance, weather-resistant materials that can withstand prolonged public interaction and will be installed vertically on concrete masonry blocks. There is no theme to this call, allowing for open interpretation and creativity.

Eligibility is open to all artists, designers, or creative individuals residing in North America. Artwork must be original works by the submitting artist (new or existing). The art may not be on display in other public art programs within a 200-mile radius of Coeur d'Alene, and may not contain advertising, religious art, sexual content, negative imagery, or convey political partisanship. Initial submissions should include a resume reflecting experience with public art installation at similar scale, at least one image of the proposal/concept, and five images of previous work. The public will be involved in the selection process by voting on their favorite submissions. Finalists will be chosen and notified, then prepare final drawings and maquettes. Each short-listed artist will receive a $300 stipend for preliminary efforts. Selection criteria include artistic quality, context, diversity, structural integrity, feasibility, and evidence of the artist's ability to successfully complete the work.
