About This Call
The Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission is seeking an artist to design and install an arch over the main pedestrian entrance to McEuen Park. The renewed and revitalized McEuen Park is being developed into a destination park with compelling and memorable features designed to serve the greatest number of uses for all ages and abilities throughout all seasons. The Entry Arch will serve as the gateway between downtown Coeur d'Alene and the park and lakefront, embodying the vibrant present and bright future of the area and providing the artistic welcome residents and visitors should feel upon entering the park.
The total funding available for the Entry Arch is up to $110,000.00, which must include the artist's fee, travel, fabrication, engineering, materials, documentation, installation, lighting, and all other costs. The arch must be comprised of low-maintenance, weather-resistant materials with a maximum height of 30 feet from ground to apex. Engineering is an essential component of this project, and costs for engineering are the responsibility of the artist and must be included within the budget. There is no theme to this call, allowing for open interpretation and creativity. Electricity will be available for installation and lighting.
Eligibility is open to all artists, designers, or creative individuals residing in North America. Initial submissions should include one image of the proposal/concept and five images of previous work, plus a resume reflecting experience in submission, selection, and successful installation of public art on a similar scale. Each artist may submit up to 20 designs. Short-listed artists will receive a $300 stipend for preliminary efforts. Artwork must be original works by the submitting artist and may not be on display in other public art programs within a 200-mile radius of Coeur d'Alene. The artwork may not contain advertising, religious art, sexual content, negative imagery, or convey political partisanship. Submissions will be evaluated by a selection committee on artistic quality, context, diversity, structural integrity, feasibility, and the artist's ability to successfully complete the work. The selection process includes public voting on initial submissions. The successful artist will be chosen by July 26, 2013, with delivery and installation by May 2014.
