About This Call
The North American Hand Papermakers invite all artists utilizing hand papermaking techniques or working with handmade paper to submit artwork to the 2020 NAHP Juried Exhibition. As a community of artists and craftspeople working with handmade paper and techniques, artists create a wide array of tactile material that speaks to the core of our senses and ties us to a vast tradition rooted in the transformation of natural fibers. The exhibition encourages investigation of the concepts of transition and change that are inherent in the creation of paper and paper arts.
The 2020 NAHP Juried Exhibition will be an online exhibition with a digital catalogue, premiering October 1, 2020. Jurors include Hong Hong (Installation & Paper Artist), Fabiola Jean-Louis (Photographer & Paper Artist), and Anne Q. McKeown (Master Papermaker, The Brodsky Center). Submissions deadline is July 31, 2020. Entry fee is $10 for members or $30 for non-members. National and international entries are encouraged.
It is not a requirement to be a papermaker to participate, but handmade paper must be a significant aspect of the works submitted. Artists collaborating with papermakers should credit the papermaker. Only submit original works created within the last 2 years. Artists may submit up to 3 artworks. Nothing but the artwork should be included within the image area. Work samples may include 1-9 images, up to 1 audio file, and up to 1 video file. Artists selected by the jury will be notified within 6 weeks of the submission deadline. NAHP membership affords a reduced submission rate and free access to the NAHP 2020 virtual conference in October.
