Material: An Exhibition of Original Fiber Artworks from Across the Country

Material is an exhibition of original fiber artworks from across the country, held at the d'Art Center in Norfolk, Virginia. The exhibition will highlight the quality and variety of fiber art and is open to functional, non-functional, 2D, 3D, fine art, and fine craft in fiber. Mixed media works are welcome as long as fiber is a major component. The exhibition is open to all artists, 18 or older, residing in the United States. All work must be original and created without the aid of an instructor or kit. All styles and aesthetics are considered, and the content of submissions should be appropriate for all viewers.

The d'Art Center is Norfolk's thirty-year-old art center which includes working professional artist studios and a wide variety of exhibitions and programming open to the public. Located in the NEON district of Norfolk, this show will be housed in d'Art's spacious main exhibition space, the Harbor Group International Gallery. Exhibition dates are February 20-March 29, 2018, with a reception on Thursday, February 22, 5:30-7:30pm. The juror is Liana Graham, Visual Arts Department Chair at The Governor's School for the Arts.

Artists may submit up to 3 artworks for consideration with an entry fee of $35.00. Works cannot exceed 30 pounds. All 2D works must be equipped with hanging hardware for installation. All 3D works that require presentation other than standard pedestals must include those displays with the works. Works that require special installation must come with clear instructions. Submissions are due Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Notifications will be sent by email by February 2, 2018. Accepted works must arrive by Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Awards: 1st Place $500.00, 2nd Place $300.00, 3rd Place $150.00. Commission for sold works is 60% (artist)/40% (d'Art), not including awards. The artist is responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery. Works must have pre-arranged call tags through FedEx or UPS for return shipping.
