About This Call
The Martha's Vineyard Drawing Prize is a competition established to encourage the pursuit of excellence in drawing, open to artists in the United States and Canada (including territories). Artist Elizabeth R. Whelan invites entries created using graphite, charcoal, Conté, silverpoint, pen & ink, or other suitable drawing media including colored pencils and chalk. The theme for this year's competition is 'Fortitude,' which can allude to courage or bravery, strength of character, endurance (physical objects, buildings, as well as people), resilience, and determination.
Each artist may submit up to 3 works. Drawings must have been created in the past 2 years. Categories of drawing can include academic, realistic, contemporary, fantasy, historic, and others. The entry fee is $10.00. This is an online-only competition juried by a gallery director, a collector, and an artist from the Martha's Vineyard arts community.
Prizes include 1st Place $500, 2nd Place $350, and 3rd Place $150, with additional awards and prizes to be announced. Prizes and awards will be announced Sunday, October 4, 2020. Finalists' work will be displayed on the Martha's Vineyard Drawing Prize website for a minimum of one year, including biographic information and links to their websites and social media. The submission deadline is Sunday, September 27, 2020.
