About This Call
The Martha's Vineyard Drawing Prize is a competition established to encourage the pursuit of excellence in drawing. Artist Elizabeth R. Whelan invites entries from artists 18 years and older who are residents of the USA.
Entries may be created using graphite, charcoal, Conté, silverpoint, pen & ink, or other suitable drawing media on paper or board. Each artist may submit up to 3 works for a $10 entry fee. Categories of drawing can include academic, realistic, contemporary, fantasy, and historic. The theme for this year's competition is 'The Ties That Bind'. All work must be original in concept and created by the entrant after January 1, 2017. Drawings created in classes or workshops are not accepted. Submitted images must represent the work's true appearance and not be altered digitally. Work created with colored pencils, colored chalk, or color pastels is not eligible.
This is an online-only competition with no need to frame or send artwork. Submissions must be entered through CAFÉ by July 28, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Images must be professional quality, high-resolution jpegs fitting within CAFÉ image requirements. The competition will be judged by a gallery director, a collector, and an artist from the Martha's Vineyard arts community. The jury will deliberate July 29 – August 10, 2019. Prizes include $500 for 1st place, $350 for 2nd place, and $150 for 3rd place, with additional in-kind and cash awards from sponsors to be announced. All prizes and awards will be announced August 11, 2019 by email and posted on the Martha's Vineyard Drawing Prize website. Finalists' work will be displayed on the website for one year, including biographic information and links to their websites and social media if desired.
