About This Call
The Marlow Heights Community Center Replacement project includes two separate public art opportunities for a new approximately 21,000 square-foot community recreation facility.
Art Opportunity #1 – Free Standing Artwork (Budget: $150,000): A free-standing sculptural element on the plaza must fit within a 10' x 10' area and not exceed 18' in height. The selected artist will design, fabricate, and install the art feature, which may be glass, metal, stone, concrete, wood, mixed media, or lighting suitable for a low-maintenance exterior application. The artist is responsible for the structural design of the footing and foundation system, including all costs. If lighting or power/control requirements are needed, the artist must identify and furnish these to the Design/Construction Team for coordination.
Art Opportunity #2 – Mosaic Application to Bench (Budget: $80,000): Individual artists or artist teams will develop a proposal for mosaic application to a curved concrete bench (18 inches high by 38 feet long by 1 foot 8 inches wide). The foundation for the bench will be fabricated and installed by the project's construction contractors, requiring close coordination with the Design/Construction Team. The artist is responsible for identifying any lighting or power/control requirements.
Artists may submit qualifications for either or both projects, but will be selected to execute only one. Selected artist candidates will be invited to develop and present their proposal to the Marlow Heights Design/Construction Team and community stakeholders. A stipend of $2,000 will be paid for the development of artist project proposals. Artworks should have the potential for becoming landmark identifiers for the surrounding community and be suitable for display at a family-friendly facility. Work samples should include 5-10 images and up to 3 videos. The project is approaching the construction phase with final completion scheduled for August 2024.
