About This Call
The ASU Art Museum seeks to establish a pre-qualified list of artists for a series of temporary and permanent public art commissions ranging in budget from $10,000 to $260,000. The public art projects will be integrated into the Marina Heights campus currently under construction on the south bank of Tempe Town Lake. When completed in 2017, Marina Heights will be the largest private office complex yet constructed in Arizona, hosting over 8,000 employees daily with offices, retail, dining, exercise facilities and open space.
Artists will be selected for both individual commissions and to work collaboratively as part of small teams to develop new site-specific projects. Project commission types will include temporary, permanent site-specific works, kinetic and interactive work and new technologies. Artists selected for further consideration will receive an honorarium for initial proposal development, ranging between $1,000 and $3,000 per artist or artist team. Final project budgets will be based upon a defined scope of work developed from preliminary artist concepts and are fixed-fee, intended to be all inclusive of costs including artist fees, engineering, tools, materials, transportation, travel, permits, taxes, insurance, fabrication and installation.
This prospectus is open to all artists internationally. Artists working in any media are eligible to apply. Prior public art experience is not required; emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artworks, a statement of interest (2000 character maximum), and a one-to-two page résumé via the CaFÉ online application system. There is no application fee. The call closes March 20, 2015, with design development beginning in April 2015 and final installations complete by March 2017.
