Maricopa Community Colleges Visual Art; Music Instrumental & Composition Competition 2014

The Maricopa Community Colleges sponsor a district-wide competition to encourage and recognize student achievement in visual arts and music. The competition is open to local students enrolled in MCCCD credit courses.

VISUAL ARTS: Students may submit work in Two-Dimensional Art or Three-Dimensional Art categories. All visual art must have been made while enrolled in a MCCCD credit course during summer, fall 2013, or spring 2014 semesters. Entry deadline is Friday, February 14, 2014. Submissions must be uploaded as JPG or JPEG files with minimum dimensions of 1920 pixels on the longest side. Two-dimensional work must not exceed 30" x 40" and weigh no more than 30 pounds. Three-dimensional artwork must fit on a 20" x 20" pedestal and weigh no more than 60 pounds. Selected work will be displayed at the Orpheum Theatre for the MCCCD Artist of Promise event on April 9, 2014. Two-dimensional work must be framed and wired; three-dimensional work must meet space and handling restrictions.

MUSIC: Participants must be registered students at a Maricopa Community College. Solo competition entrants must be enrolled in private music instruction specific to that category. Ensemble entrants must be registered for at least one credit hour in a Music Performance or Music Theory course during spring 2014. Composition entrants must be enrolled in Composition lessons. Prior First Place winners in solo and Composition categories are not eligible to compete in the same category again. Music competition entry deadline is Tuesday, February 18, 2014. The competition date is February 28 at Phoenix College. Instrumental Solo performances may be up to 8 minutes; Guitar Solo up to 10 minutes (performance from memory, published repertoire only); Piano Solo up to 12 minutes (performance from memory); Instrumental and Jazz Ensembles up to 10 minutes with two to nine members. Composition submissions must include a computer-generated score in PDF format and an audio recording in .mp3 format. First Place winners in each music category will perform at the Artist of Promise Gala on April 8 (rehearsal) and April 9, 2014 (performance) at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix.
