About This Call
The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) invites creative writing submissions from current and recent students across four categories: Poetry (maximum 67 lines), Fiction (maximum 3,000 words), Essay (maximum 2,000 words), and One-Act Play/Script (maximum 3,000 words including stage direction and production notes). Entries will be blind reviewed by a panel of experts in each discipline.
Eligibility: Contestants must have been enrolled as a "for credit" student at one of the MCCCD colleges during the semester in which the contest accepts submissions. Faculty are excluded. Students who have won First Place in a category are not eligible to participate again in that category. Only one entry per category may be submitted by an individual. Entries cannot be works from a previous publication or previously submitted for any MCCCD Creative Writing Competitions.
Submission Requirements: Entries must be submitted online via the CaFE website by 11:59 p.m. MST on December 8, 2023. Documents must be word-processed using Microsoft Word, 12 point type, in 8 1/2 x 11" formatting. The upper right corner of each page must include the title of entry and page number. Your name cannot appear anywhere on your creative writing document or the entry will be automatically disqualified. Winners will be notified by February 2024 and honored at the Artists of Promise gala. Winning entries will be showcased in Passages, an MCCCD annual publication dedicated to the competition.
