About This Call
This competition is open to current and former students of Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) colleges. Contestants must have been enrolled in credit courses at an MCCCD college when the composition was created. Entries must be works written during the student's enrollment in credit courses at an MCCCD college. Students who have won First Place in a category are not eligible to participate again in that category. Only one entry per category may be submitted by an individual. Entries cannot be works from a previous publication or previously submitted for any MCCCD Creative Writing Competitions.
Competition categories include Poetry (maximum 67 lines), Fiction (maximum 3,000 words), Essay (maximum 2,000 words), and One-Act Play/Script (maximum 3,000 words including stage direction and production notes). Entries must be word-processed using Microsoft Word, 12 point type, and in 8 1/2 x 11" formatting. The upper right corner of each page must include the title of entry and page number. Applicant names cannot appear anywhere on the creative writing document or the entry will be automatically disqualified. Up to 4 entries per applicant are allowed. Entries must be submitted online via the CaFE website no later than 10:59 p.m. on November 18, 2018.
Entries will be blind reviewed by a panel of experts in the corresponding discipline. Winners will be notified by February 2019 and will be showcased in Passages, a MCCCD annual publication dedicated to the competition. Winners are honored at the Artists of Promise gala. All winning entries will be required to complete additional documents including a district purchasing portal, W9 form, and Talent Release form prior to receipt of award funding.
