About This Call
This competition invites creative writing submissions from current and former students of Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) colleges. Entries from four categories—poetry, fiction, essay, and one-act play/script—will be blind reviewed by a panel of experts. Winners in each category will be showcased in Passages, an MCCCD annual publication, and honored at an annual creative writing awards dinner.
Eligibility: Contestants must have been enrolled as "for credit" students at one of the MCCCD colleges when the composition was created. Faculty are excluded. Entries must be works written during the student's enrollment in credit courses at an MCCCD college. Students who have won First Place in a category are not eligible to participate again in that category. Only one entry per category may be submitted by an individual. Entries cannot be works from a previous publication or previously submitted for any MCCCD Creative Writing Competitions.
Submission Requirements: Entries must be submitted online via the CaFE website by 10:59 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017. Maximum lengths are: Poetry—67 lines; Fiction—3,000 words; Essay—2,000 words; One-Act Play/Script—3,000 words including stage direction and production notes. Documents must be word-processed using Microsoft Word, 12 point type, in 8 1/2 x 11" formatting. The upper right corner of each page must include the title of entry and page number. Your name appearing anywhere on the creative writing document will result in automatic disqualification. Up to 4 work samples may be submitted. Winners will be notified by February 2018 and will be required to complete additional documents including a district purchasing portal, W9 form, and Talent Release form prior to receipt of award funding.
