About This Call
Margins, National Juried Exhibition at Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie, New York features work that engages with the idea of margins. The scope of exploration includes genders, orientations, classes, abilities, races and cultures that are subject to marginalization in contemporary society, while also questioning the margins of borders and migration.
The call is open to all mediums including drawing, painting, pastel, printmaking, photography, collage, sculpture, fiber, mixed-media, new media, and installation. Individual works should not exceed 72" in any dimension. Proposals of both contemporary and traditional pieces are invited that create a visually-compelling complement or counterpoint to Barrett Art Center's 1840s Greek Revival townhouse interior. The exhibition runs May 16 - June 21, 2020, with an opening reception on Saturday, May 16, 3-6pm and artist talks on May 30 and June 13, 3-4pm.
Entry deadline is March 10, 2020. BAC Members: $30 for the first three images plus $5 for each additional image, up to ten. Non-members: $40 for the first three images plus $5 for each additional image, up to ten. Work samples should include a minimum of 3 and maximum of 16 total samples (3-10 images and 0-6 videos). The exhibition is juried by Anthony Elms, Daniel and Brett Sundheim Chief Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) at the University of Pennsylvania and Curator of the Whitney Biennial, 2014. Awards include $500 Juror's Prize, $200 Second Prize, and $125 Honorable Mention.
