About This Call

In partnership with the Division of Facilities Construction and Management and Utah's Administrative Office of the Courts, the Utah Public Art Program requests qualifications from Utah artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific exterior sculpture(s) for the 6th District Courthouse in Manti, Utah.

The Manti Courthouse Art Selection Committee has identified an exterior location for art placement to the west of the new courthouse, featuring a public courtyard along Main Street adjacent to the historic Bishop's Storehouse. The Committee envisions this as a community gathering space with continuous public accessibility, prominently visible to drivers and pedestrians. The courtyard will be designed in harmony with the Classical entablature of the courthouse façade, and incorporated sculpture should be similarly complementary to the architecture. The Committee plans to commission two small-to-medium sculptures or one large sculpture. Artists from the surrounding counties of Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne will be given special consideration, though all artists residing in Utah are eligible. The ideal artist should be working within the Classical Tradition and have an understanding of Manti's significance within Utah's history.

Applications must be submitted online via CallForEntry.org and received by June 9, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Required materials include up to 10 images and/or up to 1 video file of previous work, a CV or resume, and a Statement of Interest. Semi-finalists will be asked to present a full proposal to the committee in Manti on August 29, 2023. A budget of $115,000 is available for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, structure/base, insurance, travel, installation, lighting, and documentation. All semi-finalists will be awarded an honorarium to help defray proposal development costs, which will be applied toward the commission amount for the selected artist(s). Project substantial completion is targeted for Fall 2024.
