About This Call
In May 2017, several oak trees were removed from along the sidewalk on Canon Avenue in Manitou Springs to improve ADA compliance. The city plans to install public art in the spaces left in the new sidewalk to replace these trees. This project is open to any artist or artist team in the United States.
The artwork should be three-dimensional with durable materials suitable for free-standing outdoor installation. Designs are not limited as to style or materials (metal, fiberglass, concrete, etc.) as long as they are durable and will withstand heavy pedestrian use and the elements. An all-inclusive budget of up to $15,000 has been allocated for this project. The selected artist(s) is responsible for all materials, supplies, fabrication, site preparation, and installation. Sculpture installation is to be completed in early May 2018. Selected finalists will be asked to give a visual presentation to the Manitou Springs Arts Council and City Council.
Applications must be submitted by November 15, 2017. Applicants must provide a concept statement with timeline and drawings, current resume, artist statement, brief biography, and up to ten images of completed large-scale work (including title, medium, location, dimensions, and year of completion). Audio and video uploads are available as options. Finalists will be notified by November 30, 2017, and the final artist will be selected on or before December 31, 2017. Up to three finalists will be invited to view the site and will have three weeks to prepare a proposal. A $500 stipend will be provided post-presentation. Comprehensive general liability insurance with minimum combined single limits of $1,000,000 each occurrence and $1,000,000 aggregate is required. The entry fee is $10.00.
