Mandatory Color: SDA 2020 Juried Member Exhibition

Members of the Surface Design Association (SDA) are invited to submit work for Mandatory Color: Surface Design Association Juried Members Exhibition, held at Museum of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. The exhibition will be on view from October 3, 2020 through December 6, 2020. The juror is Amie Adelman, a Professor in the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas. The exhibition includes awards: First Place $500, Second Place $300, Third Place $150, Honorable Mention, and SDA Award of Excellence (one-year digital membership to SDA).

This exhibition examines the use of color as a response to world-wide social distancing and quarantine. All SDA members working in all media are encouraged to apply. Up to two artworks may be submitted per artist. 2D, 3D, and video works are eligible. Entries must be original work completed after January 1, 2018. Work executed under classroom or educational guidance or supervision is not eligible. Entry fee: $40 for SDA members/$20 for SDA student-members. Artists who have been included in prior SDA exhibits are encouraged to apply, but work should show a progression or be from a different body of work. Works previously exhibited with SDA will not be considered.

Submissions are accepted online through CaFÉ from April 15 through July 15, 2020 at 11:59 PM Mountain Time Zone. Notification of acceptance will be sent August 14. Selected artwork must arrive at Museum of Texas Tech University between September 1-15, 2020. Wall-mounted work shall not exceed 216" h x 48" w. Three-dimensional artwork must not exceed 21" h x 21" w x 21" l and 25 lbs. Artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the museum. Work will be returned by December 20, 2020. Artists are responsible for insuring work during transit; the museum will insure work while on display.
