About This Call
The Martin County Art in Public Places Program, launched in 1997, is seeking artists to create a mosaic for the newly constructed Manatee Pocket Mooring Field facility in Port Salerno. The artwork will be installed on the back wall of the single-story structure, approximately 7 feet tall by 6 feet wide, and should celebrate the rich local culture, history, and natural beauty of Port Salerno and Martin County while integrating with the surrounding architectural aesthetics inspired by Florida Vernacular design.
The project budget is $15,000 and must cover all costs including design, production, transport, installation, site preparation, travel expenses, and required insurance. The artist selection will occur on July 28, 2025, with target completion and installation in mid-October/early November 2025. Artists must submit a statement of interest (maximum one page), professional resume (maximum two pages), one to three renderings of the proposed design (JPG or PNG, 300dpi, 5MB max), a detailed budget breakdown, and a signed disclosure statement regarding any professional or personal relationships with Martin County officials or employees.
The project is open to professional artists from the region as defined in the Art in Public Places Ordinance No. 1103. Artists with experience implementing work in the public realm and collaborating with public agencies are encouraged to apply. The selection criteria include appropriateness to the site, permanence relative to environmental conditions, sensitivity to aesthetic and cultural traditions and Martin County's history, and the artist's technical competency and artistic statement.
