About This Call

Artistry is seeking a commissioned artist to create a sensory art installation for the Mall of America Atrium. The installation should respond to the physical and social context of the space, serve as a community meeting point and visitor destination, and encourage active participation through sensory and interactive components. The work should highlight sustainability, accessibility, and neurodiversity awareness, and provide opportunities for Fraser- and Artistry-led activations.

The commissioned installation should feature a multi-sensory experience incorporating touch, sound, sight, and scent, with integration of sustainable materials and principles. Design considerations include interaction, sustainability, education, artistry, sensory-friendly design, and sponsor visibility (PepsiCo, James A. Levine Trust, PNC, and others). The installation should offer measurable engagement via QR code tracking and digital storytelling, and emphasize art therapy and inclusion with connection to Fraser's sensory and neurodiverse community.

Proposal requirements include a narrative summary (≤2,000 words), design concept visuals (to scale, color, 24x36 printable), fabrication and installation plan with rigging and electrical needs, suggested subcontractor list and build schedule, and itemized budget. Artists must also submit an artist statement and CV, three project examples, and three professional references. The total project budget is $60,000, consisting of $30,000 for installation/fabrication, $15,000 artist fee, and $15,000 for admin/contingency. Applications from neurodivergent artists, disabled artists, and artists with experience creating work in partnership with these communities are encouraged. A multi-organization Art Selection Panel will review submissions and score qualifications.
