About This Call
The Photography Club of Long Island is sponsoring a juried Maritime Photography Contest. The contest is open to photographers age 18 or older residing in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, as well as currently enrolled Midshipmen at the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. Work must be original and created on or after January 1, 2010.
The theme is Maritime, including images of people, boats and ships, marine facilities, harbors, seascapes, lighthouses, and objects associated with maritime activities. Entry fee is $25 per photographer; USMMA Midshipmen may enter for $10. Entrants may submit up to 3 images for the entry fee, with additional images available for $10 each up to a maximum of 10 images total. Images must be submitted online in JPEG format, sized no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side, at 72 ppi resolution, and no larger than 3 MB.
The jury includes award-winning marine photographer Onne Van der Wal, Commander Emil Muccin, USMS, and PCLI President David Wollin. Selected photographers will be notified by October 15, 2014. Awards include Best in Show ($250) for both a Public entrant and a Midshipman entrant, plus 1st ($200), 2nd ($150), and 3rd ($100) prizes, and 3 Honorable Mentions each for Public Entrants and Midshipmen. The exhibit will be displayed at the American Merchant Marine Museum, 300 Steamboat Road, Kings Point, NY, from November 6, 2014 through June 25, 2015. An Awards Reception will be held on November 9, 2014 from 4pm–7pm. Selected photographs must be delivered framed and matted, ready for hanging, by October 31, 2014. Minimum photo size is 11" x 14" (or 10" x 15") excluding the mat, with white mat and black frame not exceeding 24" on the longest side.
