Making the Cut

Shoebox Arts invites artists to submit work for "Making the Cut," a national open call online exhibition curated by Kristine Schomaker, Shoebox Arts Founder, Mentor, Publisher, and Artist. The exhibition runs January 22 through February 17, 2023, at Shoebox Projects, an alternative art space supporting artists through curator opportunities, residencies, representation, and exhibitions.

Artwork can be any media (Drawing, Video, Painting, Sculpture, Digital, Intermedia, etc.) but should address the "Making the Cut" concept. 2D artworks may include screen grabs from moving imagery but will be juried as static images. If submitting moving pieces, they must be submitted as videos (limited to 10 minutes). Work requiring specialized equipment to view will not be considered. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces for a non-refundable $15 submission fee, with up to 7 additional images available for $5 each (maximum 10 total). There are no size limitations on submitted artworks.

Accepted artists will be announced January 15, 2023. An opening reception and artist talk via Zoom will be held January 22, 2023 from 3-5pm PST. Awards include: First place - online solo show at Shoebox Projects (2023); Second place - $100; Third place - $50. All sales are handled directly between the artist and interested parties, with no gallery commission. The artist is responsible for payment arrangements, applicable taxes, and work delivery. Open to US residents, age 18 and older.
