About This Call
The City of Lewisville is seeking an artist or group of artists to enhance the Main & Mill Corridor beautification and enhancement project by celebrating the historic relevance of Old Town Lewisville. Main Street is the original east-west commercial corridor with buildings dating to the 1850s, and Mill Street is a north-south arterial street that intersects Main Street at the center of the historic downtown district. The city adopted the Old Town Master Plan in 2002 to guide revitalization, and the Mill Street Corridor Plan in 2010, which received a $3 million grant from the North Texas Central Texas Council of Governments. Design schematics were finalized in September 2015, and construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2018.
The public art project will consist of four uniquely designed benches to be placed on Main Street east of Mill Street. Two benches (#2 and #4) will be eight feet long, no more than 28 inches deep, with variable height. Two benches (#1 and #3) will be 10 feet long with the same depth, incorporating integrated bicycle accommodation such as a bike rack. Three benches will be placed on the south side of Main Street and one on the north side, all facing a standard 6-foot concrete sidewalk. The selection panel seeks a unique, one-of-a-kind art project appropriate for Old Town Lewisville that tells a story relevant to the community. All artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for outdoor exposure and resistant to vandalism. The selection panel is open to artwork in all media and materials that meet the project objectives.
Eligibility is national. Applicants must submit 8 images. Entry deadline is June 29, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Contact: [email protected].
