About This Call
Madison Heights is a growing city of 30,000 people located north of Detroit in Oakland County. The city has recently begun a program allowing local artists to display their works in the public corridors of City Hall and other municipal buildings. This Disability Pride Month exhibit uplifts the voices of Michiganders and artists with disabilities and aligns with the city's increasing focus on arts and culture.
Works will be on display from July 1-31, 2023 at the Madison Heights Civic Center located at 240 W 13 Mile Rd, Madison Heights, Michigan. All mediums are accepted, including painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, video, and creative writing. Artists may submit a maximum of 7 pieces. For 3D pieces, the weight limit is 15 lbs and dimensions must be less than 36" wide x 24" tall. For 2D pieces, dimensions must be less than 36" wide and 24" tall. If your work is selected, it must be framed and/or ready to hang or be displayed.
Pieces should be relevant to Disability Pride Month and/or the Americans with Disabilities Act anniversary, family-friendly, appropriate for many ages, and aligned with the City of Madison Heights' commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Judging criteria include interpretation and clarity of theme, creativity and originality, quality of artistic composition and design, and overall impression of the artwork. Awards will be given for Best in Show and Viewers Choice. Artists may indicate whether their work is for sale or not for sale. All artists age 12 and over are encouraged to apply. Artists should include a brief biography describing their ties to Michigan and/or Madison Heights, their interest in or connection to the disability community, and their experience with art, including education, relevant awards, and past public exhibits.
